A Clydebank Brownie leader is stepping down after 30 years of volunteering, sparking a search for a new leader to help keep the unit running.

Carol-Ann Innes has led 2nd Faifley Brownies since 2019 and has volunteered with Girlguiding since 1996. However, her Girlguiding journey began much earlier when she joined aged six as her mum was a Brownie leader.

She later became a young leader with Faifley Rainbows before completing her leadership training with 1st Faifley Guides.

She eventually took over leadership of 2nd Faifley Brownies.

The right time to step down

Now aged 50, Carol-Ann has decided to step back from leading the unit.

Her daughter has followed in her footsteps through Rainbows and Brownies and is now a Guide, making it the right time for Carol-Ann to hand over the reins to a new leader.

Happy to help

While she is stepping down, she hopes to continue helping out whenever needed.

Carol-Ann said: “Girlguiding has been a huge part of my life since I was six-and-a-half. I’ve loved seeing girls grow in confidence, make friends and enjoy new experiences over the years. Now feels like the right time to take a step back from leading, but I’ll always be happy to help out if needed.”

The unit meets every Tuesday during term time at Faifley & Duntocher Parish Church.

Volunteers must either already have a Girlguiding adult leadership qualification or be willing to work towards gaining one. Full training and support will be provided by the local commissioner team.

‘Incredibly grateful’ to Carol-Anne

Karen Young, division commissioner for Girlguiding Dunbartonshire, said: “Carol-Ann has given so much time and energy to supporting girls in Faifley over many years, and we are incredibly grateful for everything she has done.

“Her dedication has made a real difference to generations of girls, and she leaves behind a wonderful legacy.

“We would love to hear from anyone who would like to continue her work and help local girls enjoy the fun, friendship and adventures that Brownies offers. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference in your community and help young people build confidence, learn new skills and create memories that will last a lifetime.”
