Two Girlguiding Dunbartonshire volunteers are preparing to take on one of the UK’s toughest hiking challenges as part of a fundraising mission.

Cat Heron and Sarah Dickson will tackle the Three Peaks Challenge, covering around 23 miles and climbing the three highest peaks in Wales, England and Scotland in a demanding back-to-back challenge.

The pair will do the challenge in reverse, setting off from Snowdon at 4am on 24 June, before continuing to Scafell Pike and finishing their challenge at Ben Nevis on 25 June.

They will be supported throughout the challenge by fellow Girlguiding volunteer Lorna Hamilton, who will drive them between the mountains and transport their kit.

The challenge is being undertaken to raise funds for Catterburn, Girlguiding Dunbartonshire’s campsite, which provides girls and young women with opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities, develop new skills and build confidence.

For Sarah, there will be an extra reason to celebrate when she reaches the finish line as 25 June is her birthday.

Support for Catterburn’s future

Cat said: “We’re really looking forward to taking on the Three Peaks Challenge, although we know it’s going to be tough. Catterburn is such an important resource for Girlguiding Dunbartonshire, giving girls the chance to experience adventure and the outdoors. We wanted to do something challenging to help raise funds and support its future.”

Sarah added: “Having my birthday at the end of the challenge will definitely give me something to aim for! We’re incredibly grateful to Lorna for supporting us and taking on the driving, and we hope people will get behind us and help us raise as much as possible for Catterburn.”

The fundraising challenge comes as Girlguiding Dunbartonshire continues its efforts to improve and develop Catterburn, ensuring it can continue to provide a safe and welcoming place for girls and young women across the area.
