Two dedicated Dunbartonshire volunteers have been appointed as sub camp team leads for Camp Càirdeas 2027, Girlguiding Scotland’s flagship national camp in Fife.

Emma Barclay and Sarah Dickson will each lead a sub camp of up to 100 Guides and Rangers from across Scotland, supported by a team of volunteers.

Their roles will involve overseeing the day-to-day running of their sub camps and helping to create a memorable, safe and inclusive experience for young members attending the event.

‘Unforgettable opportunity’

Emma said: “I am absolutely delighted to be appointed to the team for next year’s Scotland-wide Guide camp.

“I am incredibly excited to gain fantastic new experiences, connect with wonderful people, and help provide an unforgettable opportunity for girls coming together from every corner of Scotland.

“To make things even more special, I’ll be celebrating my birthday during the camp, and I honestly cannot think of a better way to spend it than surrounded by my amazing Guiding family.”

A ‘memorable experience’

Sarah, who is the county’s lead volunteer for adventure, added: “I’m delighted at being appointed a sub camp team lead, I am most looking forward to supporting leaders, Guides and Rangers throughout the camp, helping to create a fun, safe and inclusive environment, and encouraging teamwork, confidence and friendship.

“I am excited to contribute to a memorable experience where everyone can challenge themselves, learn new skills and make lasting memories.”

Volunteer roles available

As preparations begin, both sub camp teams are seeking support from local Guiding units. There is currently a small number of volunteer positions still available within Emma’s team, and interested adult volunteers are encouraged to get in touch to find out more.

In addition, both sub camps are looking to source tentage for approximately 100 participants. While tents based at Catterburn will be utilised, additional equipment is required to accommodate all attendees. Any units able to lend tents are asked to contact Sarah via adventure@girlguidingdunbartonshire.org.uk

Funding help

Young members planning to attend Camp Càirdeas are also reminded that the Scottish headquarters bursary scheme is currently open for applications, with further funding opportunities available through the camp information page.
