Urgent appeal to find new volunteers for Westerton Brownie unit

A 70-year-old Girlguiding unit is appealing for new volunteers to step forward and help secure its future.

The 7th Bearsden Brownies, based at Westerton Guide Hall, is unable to reopen after the summer break due to a shortage of adult helpers.

The group provides activities for girls aged seven to ten, offering opportunities for adventure, friendship and personal development.

Community appeal

Girlguiding leaders are now appealing to the community to come forward and support the unit.

Vicky Williams, division commissioner, said: “We’re calling on people from all walks of life to consider volunteering with us – whether you’re a young person looking to gain experience, or someone later in life seeking a rewarding new challenge.

“Volunteering with Girlguiding is a fantastic way to build skills that really stand out on your CV, including leadership, teamwork, event planning and problem-solving.

“But, just as importantly, it’s about helping girls grow in confidence while enjoying the crafts, games and badges that make every meeting special.

“The 7th Bearsden Brownies has been part of the community since 1946, and we’re determined to see it continue for decades to come. With a little help, we can make sure that happens.”

Full Girlguiding training given

No prior experience with Girlguiding is required, as full training and ongoing support are provided. The unit meets every Wednesday during term time.

Anyone aged 18 or over who can spare a few hours a week is encouraged to get in touch.
