Behind the group is a large white “SCOTLAND” sign with a purple-and-pink emblem, set against dark purple curtains. The photo is taken inside an elegant hall with white columns, decorative wall panels, and wooden flooring. Several chairs and a microphone stand are visible in the background.

Members of 3rd Bearsden Guides joined young people at a special Commonwealth Games-themed event celebrating the achievements and talents of Scotland’s next generation.

A total of 16 Guides from the unit attended Together We Are Scotland: Our Young Scots at Scotland House in Glasgow’s Corinthian Club. They were accompanied by volunteer leaders Charlene Jany, Lorna Hamilton and Helen Mactier.

Celebrating our young people

Four young Girl Guides wearing blue jackets with red cuffs and green event lanyards stand in front of a large circular backdrop displaying the Team Scotland logo and the words “TEAM SCOTLAND.” Each participant is wearing a medal and holding part of the jacket open to show it. A winners’ podium with the number “1” is visible in the foreground. The photo is taken indoors in a brightly lit venue with illuminated ceiling panels and wood-patterned flooring.

The event brought together around 150 attendees, including 70 young people, to recognise and celebrate the positive impact young people are making in communities across Scotland.

The celebration was opened by Minister for Children, Young People and The Promise, Siobhan Brown MSP, and hosted by broadcaster Ronnie Charters on behalf of the STV Children’s Appeal.

Craft stall

As part of the programme, the Guides organised a Commonwealth-themed craft stall, giving attendees the opportunity to get creative while learning more about the values of friendship, inclusion and international understanding that are at the heart of Guiding.

Several Girl Guides in blue uniforms with red sleeves and neck scarves are gathered on a polished dance floor in an ornate hall. Some are dancing and holding hands in the foreground, while others are standing and talking throughout the room. The hall features tall white columns, decorative walls, large hanging light fixtures, and purple accent lighting. At the far end of the room, a presentation screen displays a Team Scotland logo above a stage area. Tables and additional attendees line the sides of the hall, creating a lively event atmosphere.

Throughout the day, guests enjoyed interactive activities and performances, including a youth choir sing-along, a demonstration from the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Games Team, dance performances and a ceilidh.

Building confidence

Victoria Gartland, leader of the 3rd Bearsden Guides, said: “We were delighted to be invited to take part in this fantastic event celebrating Scotland’s young people.

“Our Guides thoroughly enjoyed meeting other young people, taking part in the activities and representing Girlguiding at such a high-profile occasion.

The participant on the left stands on the second-place platform beside a large basketball prop. The participant in the centre stands on the first-place platform holding a large Team Scotland trophy cut-out and wearing a traffic cone hat. The participant on the right stands beside the podium holding a barbell prop overhead. The venue features blue illuminated ceiling lights, wood-patterned flooring, and stone-effect walls, creating a playful photo opportunity area.

“Events like this help girls build confidence, develop new skills and see the positive contribution they can make to their communities.”
