A dedicated Girlguiding volunteer is lacing up her running shoes to take on the Manchester Marathon.

Cat Heron, 26, a volunteer with the 6th Clydebank Guides, is raising vital funds for Girlguiding Dunbartonshire’s county campsite, Catterburn, near Croftamie.

The Brownie House at Catterburn was devastated by flooding in 2023, and plans are afoot to rebuild the much-loved accommodation as an outdoor activity centre.

Catterburn is used by Girlguiding members from across Dunbartonshire for camps, residentials and outdoor learning experiences. It has played an important role in Girlguiding Dunbartonshire for many years, providing girls and young women with opportunities to build confidence, learn new skills and enjoy the outdoors.

Marathon effort

Funds raised through Cat’s marathon effort on April 19 will go directly towards essential building work, helping to ensure the site can continue to be enjoyed by future generations.

Cat, a trainee accountant from Duntocher, said: “I’m really proud to be running the Manchester Marathon to support Catterburn. The Brownie House means so much to our members, and any donations – big or small – will make a real difference in helping us rebuild this special place and transform it into an activity centre.”
