Cat Heron after she has finished the Manchester Marathon

A Clydebank Girlguiding volunteer has smashed her marathon challenge – raising more than £1,400 to help restore a flood-damaged Brownie House.

Cat Heron, who helps out at the 6th Clydebank Guides at the Tower Centre in Melfort Avenue, completed the Manchester Marathon last month, raking in an impressive £1,277, plus £140 in Gift Aid donations.

Catterburn Brownie House, near Croftamie in Stirlingshire, has been out of use since it was flooded in January 2023.

Trainee accountant Cat said: “I had a great time running the marathon. The atmosphere was amazing and it was made so much better knowing I was raising funds for Catterburn.

“It was worth the pain and the long nights of training to finish the run. I’m so excited to see what the funds raised go towards.”

Restoring Catterburn Brownie House

Money raised from Cat’s marathon challenge will go directly towards restoring the Brownie House as a fully accessible, modern outdoor activity centre where girls can make memories for years to come.

Janice Blair, leader of the 6th Clydebank Guides, said: “We are so proud of Cat and this amazing achievement. It was no mean feat. In fact, she texted our team afterwards saying she was going to put ‘marathon survivor’ on her CV, which made us all laugh!

“Every step she took brought us closer to our goal of reopening Catterburn Brownie House, and we are so grateful to everyone who donated.”
