Janice and Lorna wear navy Girlguiding uniforms and hold framed certificates, while Marie wears a green blazer and dark trousers. Dedicated volunteer Lorna Hamilton is celebrating after receiving a special parliamentary mention for her outstanding commitment to Girlguiding Dunbartonshire.

Marie McNair, MSP for Clydebank and Milngavie, raised a motion in the Scottish Parliament recognising Lorna’s 40 years of dedication to helping girls and young women grow in confidence, skills and ambition.

Ms McNair recently met with Lorna, who is will soon stand down as county commissioner after five years, to present her with a framed copy of the motion.

Also at the presentation was Janice Blair, leader of the 6th Clydebank Guides, who received her own framed copy of a parliamentary motion raised in September last year, recognising her 36 years of volunteering and prestigious Laurel Award win.

‘Above and beyond’

Ms McNair said: “I was delighted to be able to formally recognise Lorna Hamilton and Janice Blair with parliamentary motions to honour their service and hard work over many years.

“I know them both well, and I am so grateful for the work they do inspiring young women and girls. Both have gone above and beyond for Girlguiding.

“As a former Girl Guide myself, it was a special moment for me to be able to celebrate them in this way. Well done again to Lorna and Janice, and my sincere thanks to you both.”

‘A little surprised’

Lorna said: “I was absolutely delighted – and a little surprised – to receive this recognition. Guiding has been such a big part of my life and I’m proud to be part of such a fantastic community of volunteers and young members.”
