3rd Vale of Leven Guides French Adventure!

Guides from 3rd Vale of Leven guides spent two weeks in France this
summer!

Starting with a whistle-stop tour of Paris, taking in the sights in less than
48 hours before travelling to Lyon. The girls stayed with a French family and
explored the city of Lyon for just under 5 days before heading to camp for
a week. Meeting French Scouts and Guides from all over the country and
testing their camping skills – working with very little but achieving
a lot!

12th Clydebank Guides Have Science Fun with ‘Centre for Virus Research’

12th Clydebank Guides had an evening of “Fun with Viruses”.  We learned about how viruses are formed and spread, we made air dough and origami viruses, jelly cells and coloured in amazing virus art. We also got a taste of real life in the science lab by taking the glove box challenge and achieved the Science Interest Badge!

Huge thanks to CVR – the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research for supporting the event, and special thanks to our scientist visitors Claire, Steph, Gillian and Sara for providing a night that was brilliant fun, informative and inspirational to all of the girls.

Kayla’s Certificate of Commendation – One Brave Brownie!

We are extremely proud of our 6th Clydebank Brownie, Kayla McCulloch, who achieved the ‘Scottish Chief Commissioner’s Certificate of Commendation for Showing Bravery and Compassion in the Face of Adversity’ Award.

Kayla has been raising money to help the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF) after she was diagnosed with Liver Disease last year and received fantastic support from the charity.

The charity is conducting a national fundraising day ‘Big Yellow Friday’ on March 4th 2018. Kayla has requested for The Kelpies to be illuminated yellow on the evening of March 4th and hopes The SEC and The SSE Hydro will follow suit to raise awareness of the CLDF Charity.

Kayla’s Mother, Elaine, expressed her thanks to Girlguiding stating:

“We had a beautiful evening and it was lovely to see everyone including familiar faces and some new faces too.

Kayla adores being a Brownie and part of the Girlguiding Family, Kayla looks forward to future adventures and achieving more milestones.

Kayla takes being part of Girlguiding seriously and somewhere that she can create her own identity, be herself, forget about her debilitating illness on a weekly basis, making friends and achieving goals.”

Bear Hunt

12th Clydebank Guides  recently went on a Bear hunt.

It’s a lovely walk in a wooded area just a 5 minute walk from Westerton train station.  There are wood carvings of some woodland creatures and the group of Bears at the end.

They usually do the walk on a guide night and the girls all love it.

Narnia

3rd Vale of Leven Guides travelled to Narnia where they helped defeat Jadis and they even had a visit from Santa.  They also celebrated a birthday!

Despite travelling to Narnia, no 3rd Vale residential is complete without Fajitas (one year the leaders thought they would treat the Guides to takeaway and there was mutiny) so they made sure to work them into the theme!

Beauty and the Beast

Like hundreds of thousands of Girlguiding members, 3rd Vale of Leven Guides went to see the live action version of Beauty and the Beast when it was released…but before that, members were invited to “Be our Guest” at a sleepover where they thought up their own fairy tales, designed new outfits for Belle, made time stand still and shared what made each of them beautiful on the inside as well as on the outside.

One of the leaders may have required a nap at the cinema!!

3rd Vale of Leven Guides playing outside

3rd Vale of Leven Guides have been lucky with the weather recently and have taken advantage of this at unit meetings!  Getting outside and playing…or making up gymnastic routines!!

Good luck Beth

3rd Vale of Leven Guides are very sad that one of their Guides is moving to America over the summer, but for her 13th birthday they recently had a party with an American theme.  There were lots of tears but they are also looking forward to creating links with her Girl Scout troop!

Good luck Beth.
