Here in Dunbartonshire we are very proud of our Guiding heritage. The first Royal Patroness of Girl Guides was H.R.H. Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll and daughter of Queen Victoria. In 1920, Princess Louise, who had a home at Rosneath Castle in Dunbartonshire, expressed a desire that the Guide County should be called "Princess Louise's Own" and the County has been proud to bear this Royal Accolade ever since. As far as we know, this makes us the only Guide County who are permitted to use a Royal Cipher on our County banner and badges, although Dunbartonshire District Scout Council is also 'Princess Louise's Own'. Princess Louise died in 1939.
By becoming a member of Girlguiding Dunbartonshire you are be following in some very special footsteps… In fact, one of our most famous members was "Texas" singer, Sharleen Spitteri, who was a Brownie right here in Balloch!
We take our fun just as seriously as we take our Guiding, and you may well find us caught up in all sorts of fabulous activities from flying light aircraft to presenting our own talent shows and raising money for charity.
We have our own outdoor facility at Catterburn (above)Â with a campsite, newly refurbished Bothy and great indoor accommodation at the "Brownie House".
